1996 Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year
Richard Chapleau, Palmdale High School

The Southern California ACS is pleased to announce the Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher for 1995-1996, Richard Chapleau. Richard has taught chemistry and other sciences from 1989 to 1995 at Palmdale High School Medical Magnet. He is currently at Lancaster High School, setting up the curriculum. Richard also teaches as an Adjunct Professor int he Education Department at Chapman University.

Richard is lauded for his ability to inspire his students to learn and to continue in the field of science. His efforts to educate go beyond school. He organizes and participates in many community outreach programs. As a result of his outstanding contributions, Richard was also honored in 1995 as the recipient of a Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, a California State PTA Honorary Service Award, a Chapman University Alumnus of the Year Award, and most importantly, the California Department of Education, California Teacher of the Year Award, for which he was hosted in the White House by the First Family last spring.
