for Distinguished Service
Dr. Thomas LeBon
This year’s winner of the Sister Agnes Ann Green Award for Distinguished Service is Dr. Thomas LeBon, who receives this recognition based on his tireless service both within the Southern California Local Section as well as in the ACS nationally.
On the local scene, Tom has served as a member of the Executive Committee, as Secretary, and twice as Chair. Tom has also been active in supporting community outreach programs such as National Chemistry Week and Chemists Celebrate Earth Day.
In close cooperation with the late Susana Halpine, Tom helped to implement the Section’s Science in the Cinema Program which, in 2005, was recognized nationally with a prestigious ACS ChemLuminary Award. Through Tom’s efforts the activity has been renamed the Susana Halpine Science in the Cinema Program.
On the national scene, Tom has served as a Local Section Councilor and also as a member of the National Ethics Committee. In that capacity Tom represented our section at the Southeast Regional Meeting (SERMACS) and also at the National ACS meeting in Chicago.
Through his enthusiasm and passion for sharing science with students and educators of all ages, Tom has been an outstanding role model and mentor to several individuals now active in Local Section and National ACS affairs. Congratulations, Tom.
