Rita R. Boggs
1992 Agnes Ann Green Distinguished Award Recipient

Dr. Rita R. Boggs is the 1992 recipient of the Agnes Ann Green Award for outstanding service to the Southern California Section ACS.

Rita has been a very effective member of the Section for many years. As a member of the Executive Committee in the early 1980’s she rejuvenated the Section’s employment service and then extended it to cooperate with the Orange County Section. Members and employers from the broad Southern California area continue to benefit from her early work. As co-chair of the registration committee during the 1983 and 1989 Western Regional Meetings, she again applied her business skills and efficiency in accomplishing a very important and difficult job. She has, for many years, been the section’s representative to the Coordinating Council of California Sections.

In 1989, Rita was chosen by the membership as Chair-Elect and assumed the office of Section Chair for 1990. Again her hard work and dedication to the section were evident as she led us through some major changes in the section office operations. With her usual commitment to the section, Rita took over the responsibility of coordination of the office and employees. Today the business of the Southern California Section proceeds smoothly because of the volunteer efforts of Rita Boggs.

Rita’s contribution are best summed up by a quote from one of the nomination letters. “It is clear that Rita’s commitment to ACS and her strong leadership and thoughtful contributions to the Executive Committee have not only promoted the profession of chemistry, but have also advanced the strength of the (Southern California) Section.”
