Agnes Ann Green Award for Distinguished Service
Gil Mislang, 2009 Recipient

This year’s winner of the Sister Agnes Ann Green Award for Distinguished Service is Hermenegildo “Gil” Mislang, who receives this recognition based on his extensive and dedicated service to the Southern California Local Section. Gil is the Director of Research for Dunn-Edwards Corporation, a Los Angeles based manufacturer of architectural coatings.

Gil first became active in local section affairs when he was invited to serve as Program Chair for a former Chair-elect, arranging all the programs that year. Gil continued to be active in the section in the next year with no formal title. In 2004, Gil became Chair-Elect and when the Chair that year passed away, Gil stepped up to complete that chairmanship, continuing with his own term in the subsequent year. In 2006 Gil served as Secretary and, in the following year, as an Alternate Councilor.

In 2008, Gil began serving a term as Member-at-Large of the Executive Committee, which position he holds until the end of 2010. During his chairmanship of the section Gil filled the role of Nominations and Elections Chair and served in that capacity on another separate occasion. Gil has been instrumental in recruiting industrial chemists to be members of the Executive Committee or to participate in monthly section dinner meetings. This past summer Gil agreed to sponsor a Project SEED student at Dunn-Edwards continuing his valuable contributions to our local section programs.
